Most recognised for his railway and locomotive paintings, Cuneo also achieved great success in his regimental and military commissions. He was actually appointed the official artist of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
‘Trapacat II’ is a brilliant example of Cuneo’s ‘Tailpiece’ series. A collection of works that he painted depicting mice often dressed as historical military figures. Often painted with locomotives and race cars, the mice are always depicted with fun costumes, fabulous expressions and details throughout the canvas that makes Cuneo’s quirky spirit shine through his paintings. As you look at the canvas you can’t help but be struck with the vibrant living quality of the work.
